AMV urges Muslims to help hurricane Katrina victims
Fundraising at Woodland, CA Mosque

August 30, 2005: The American Muslim Voice (AMV) today urged Muslim Americans to contribute in the relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Massive and unprecedented” were the words used by one emergency responder to the devastation wrought by hurricane Katrina that pummeled the Gulf Coast earlier this week. The relief operation is also expected to be the largest in U.S. history.

" It is unfortunate that it takes a natural disaster to unite us and to make us understand that we are all human beings with similar needs and limitations and we need each other. We need to face this disaster as one nation because we are one family and should feel each others pain. This is a humanitarian issue and a time when all of us need to come together to help our human family,” said Samina Faheem Sundas, AMV Executive Director.

"Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with our brothers and sisters  who have lost their treasured family members, their homes, their neighbors, friends, communities and their livelihoods" Said Khalid Saeed President of American Muslim Voice a national grassroots advocacy group.

Khalid Saeed a resident of Woodland  announced that funds will be collected at Woodland mosque starting from Friday prayers services and he urged all AMV chapters to start the nation wide campaign to collect funds and distribute them through any of the following reputable relief organizations:
